Spring - April 20, 2024 / Fall - Sept, 21, 2024
Flood Run all started back when a group of bikers made the run downriver to Winona to help sandbag for the 1965 flood, Marilyn Graw(Brads Mom) had just purchased the Harbor Bar in July of 1964 and got hit with the worst flood in history 9 months later.
So In 1966 the Mayor of Winona invited those bikers to come down for free beer and hotdogs that the city was putting on for all the volunteers that came and helped sandbag the previous year. So those bikers made their first "Flood Run" down the iconic scenic drive along the Mississippi River making Harbor Bar the first official stop along the way to Winona. And stopping every year after that since. Back in those days bikers were not always welcome in every bar or restaurant. And as Brad tells his memories of those first flood runs he says his Mom welcomed the bikers on those first flood runs when other's closed their doors and wouldn't serve them. One year when Hells Angels first came through this area for a "Flood Run" the police called mom to warn her. I was about 10 years old and the group had torn up several bars on their way towards town and were making a mess out of a bar in Red Wing. Brad watched them drive through the parking lot. Mom put up a sign closed for family emergency. the group went on to tear up Vieth's Bar after that. It is the only Flood Run Harbor Bar was ever closed for except for actually being flooded out on the day of the Run which did happen several times where they were moving everything out for the upcoming flood on the day of that years 'Flood Run". That never deterred her and she alway's accepted bikers in her bar. Brad would have to work every "Flood Run" and help his mom deal with the crowds that would grow from a dozen guys every year to now be the 3rd biggest motorcycle run in the country with thousands of bikers stopping on their way along the river. Harbor Bar has been proud to be a major stop along there route. At first there never was an official route until In 2005 a group of bikers started a charity ride for Gillette Children's foundation and it continues to raise funds for the kids every year. There never was an official event in the beginning it just grew from that groups first ride and every year it would get bigger and bigger to become one of the major biker events in the USA. Come join us for the Run which now goes open twice per year bringing bikers together from all over the country. And ride safe and have fun!
